What the £$*^& is an "Account Status Review Fee"??

not sure if this is the right place to post this, but it is a bit of a vent as well as a request for advice, so it seems a sensible place to start...
usually I use internet banking. got a difficult couple of months coming up, so I wondered if my bank might let me have a temporary overdraft. As the only thing I could do online was apply for one, and I didn't want to do that as I might not need it in the end, I decided to phone and ask.
All fine until I recieved a letter from my bank advising me that they were charging me a £10 "Account Status Review Fee" - what the £$*^&???
The guy I spoke to on the phone absolutely did not mention this charge. I've just spent half an hour the bank's website trying to find anything referring to it, and I can't. I've even googled the phrase, and nothing.
So, has anyone else been charged anything similar? Do I have any hope of contesting it?

Get them to mail you the T&C's of your account. Sounds odd I must say. do you pay for your account at all?"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

An account review fee is what it sounds like, you have indicated that you may be in difficulty so they have reviewed your credit facility. Whilst it will no doubt say this in your paperwork, you should have been advised on the phone also, unless you are already in your overdraft. Give the bank a call and see what explanation they give. If you still don't think it is right and they will not refund, come back to us and tell us what they say.0

It's a pretty standard fee nowadays, but normally only for those who are already in difficulty, not those that are trying to avoid it happening!0 -
thanks all - I'm not already in difficulty, and it's not an account I pay for. I'll give them a call and see what they've got to say for themselves...0
