Can anyone help?
I'm getting about 4 mails a day from young ladies in Africa who want to be friends with me and also a couple on how I can help them get $XXXm out of their war ravaged country. How can I stop them? they are irritating. Where did they get my e mail address? Thanks for your help.

if its the same email address or portions of it then add it to your spam address list.
unfortunately spam is hard to stop once they have your addy so try setting up a new one."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Only four ... count yourself lucky
A more useful reply: It depends on your email program. Outlook does a reasonably job of filtering as does Yahoo and Google. Apart from the filtering in your email client there is absolutely nothing you can do about it I'm afraid.0 -
Ignore them, and they'll maybe stop.

If you want to check one e-mail address, try mailwasher free, which does not stop spam arriving but filters it out

Check you mail via that, it has a built in block list which you can add to or remove from, sometimes bona fide mail gets blocked. It gives you a screen with all the mail, it ticks the blocked ones, you can tick any others there, then click process and it only downloads the approved ones
Keep an eye on it until all your friends and approved senders are in your friends list0 -

First, Do Not ever reply to any junk email (spam). All this does is confirm that the email address is a real one and the spam will increase. A common trick is to add an "unsubscribe" link which does nothing of the sort.
Second, spammers have perfected the trick of sending out emails to all possible variants of your name. Email spam is effectively free so it is possible to do this. It is possible that they've just guessed your email address.
Third, what do you use for email? Some email providers have nice spam filters in place, if let us know someone can advise further.
Fourth, too late now but it's a good idea to use disposable email addresses.

Virtually impossible to stop spam but with some email clients, such as Thunderbird, you can set up a whitelist so that only e-mails from those people in your address book get into your Inbox and everything else is directed to your Spam/Junk folder.0

Set up several email accounts.
One for close friends and family,
One for dealing with any online accounts you have,
One for everything else.
Change the "everything else" one regularly.
Don't let yourself get wound up about the spam - it's just a fact of life at present.
