Wireless House Alarm

Options
Hi there,
Not sure if I'm putting this in the right place but here goes........
I am looking to purchase a Wireless House Alarm system and I keep seeing the Yale ones advertised.
My questions are
1. Where could I buy these alarms at a decent price?
2. Are they really any good?
3. Does anyone have a specific brand I should go with?

Sorry so many questions but I want to know what these systems are like and whether I'm wasting my time. Thanks in advance for all replies!!!!

hi b&q were selling off yale wirless alarm system a couple of days back reduced by 50%. I have a response wireless alarm that i fitted to my house about 5 years back, and you can check out the models on reponse.co.uk, they are actually alot better now then when i bought mine, lots of added features.

They are a lot better than they used to be, and they are a lot better than nothing. Many people believe that even a dummy bellbox is enough to act as a deterrant and i am sure that in some cases they are correct.

    If i had to go wireless i would try to get a scantronic system (not easy as they appear to be trade only) failing that i would go for an infinite system details here;

Not the cheapest but good quality.

Personally i prefer the reliability of wired systems and go for them every time dispite the installation challenges, but i can certainly understand why people go for Yale, Response, Visonic, mass market wireless systems. Cost and convenience are powerful motivators.

You can get wireless alarms from ScrewFix. My brother in law bought one from there after doing quite a bit of research. Also thy have offers on at the moment where you get £100 off 450, £50 off 250 and £20 of £150 or something similar.
  • Hi guys,

Please pardon my igornarance, but is a wireless system a dummy one or just the same accept installing all the cables? What are the restrictions?

Just buying a house and am interested in the topic.

    Thanks

Just a wire free (real) alarm working at high frequency.
The latest versions work at the eu standard of
868MHz, the older stuff at 433 Mhz.

PIR detectors and alarm box tend to be battery operated but some alarm boxes can be hard wired to mains power.

What alanobrien said... Most things can probably be battery powered, but you can probably have them connected to the mains. The main thing is that there are no wires connecting all the sensors to the control panel. Control panels (where you enter the arm/disarm pin) can probably also be connected to the mains because it's always on, but battery would still be fine. Also, some control panels can be connected to the phone line and you can dial in to listen in to your house. It can also call you when someone disarms the system!

    Hello
we have a BT home monitor wireless alarm which contacts up to 3 people if your alarm is triggered (subscription is £5 per month for this but the alarm works without this function). We did have a couple of problems on the 1st day (one sensor kept triggering for no reason) but once we deleted it and readded, it was fine!
I noticed the alarms were on sale with heavy discount on the BT website a couple of weeks ago but we bought ours with extra sensors and door magnets off Ebay.
