Company Forcing us to pay own Broadband

As I am a home based salesperson my company has always paid my broadband so I can work from home. Now they say from January they won't pay anymore as its a requirement of the job to have broadband. I can't find a new broadband supplier that doesn't require a contract. Does anyone know if my company is allowed to do this?

Presumably thety are telling you now, in advance, of the change to your job contract terms and conditions. Is there free wifi available where you live?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Had this a few years ago, exactly the same, company installed broadband in my home on their BT account, then changed the rules about a year later. They cancelled the line and we had to take on our own contract for line & BB. It stinks but there unfortunately was nothing we could do about it. Sorry.
Yes, look into local free WiFi, this wasnt about when it happened to me, good idea.0 -
Jarndyce will be along any moment to say that they obviously can do this because they have. He doesn't like it when we steal his catch-phrase so I am giving him the credit. But it is true. They can do it because they have. You might be able to argue custom and practice around the payments etc - but frankly there won't be a lot more that you can do because this isn't worth risking your employment over. So if the employer won't budge, then I am afraid the best advice is to swallow it.0

When I was with Be*, their call centre was in Scotland and was very, very good. I've tried AOL support (based in India) and found it rather unpleasant.0 -
You've said your company so I assume you're an employee of the company. Is that correct and so you have a contract (in line with this do you have a manager, holiday allowance etc) or do you work on a freelance basis and subseuqently self employed?Don't Throw Food Away Challenge January 2012 - £0.17 / £10
Grocery Challenge 16th Jan - 19th Feb 2012 - £254.72/£200 (Ooops very bad start)
Grocery Challenge 20th Feb - 8th March 2012 - £0/£2000 -
Be* offer some 3 month contracts as well0

BE's support line is in Bulgaria. When I moved house last year I called them and the guy talked so fast with such an accent that I couldn't understand him at all. I had to ask him to slow down which was a bit embarrassing.ringo_24601 wrote: »When I was with Be*, their call centre was in Scotland and was very, very good.
