Energy supplier is responsible for changing the meter, after all they are the ones who lose out if the meter is running backwards.
I have just arranged with Scottish Power to have my meter changed.
Its been running backwards since April, thought I had better tell them.
Changing it FOC in a couple of weeks time.

Did they back-charge you for estimated use?

I'd wait until a couple of months after the meter has been changed and ask the question again ..... others on the forum have had their beneficial saving estimated and have been charged accordingly, the same is true on other forums too.

They have not changed the meter yet !!
I would think that they probably will back charge.....have you ever got any electricity for nothing ???
That is why I wanted the meter changed. Even though it is nice to see it going backwards, I don't want to be faced with a massive back dated electricity bill in 5 years time.

I don't know if they all do or not, but mine does, and it's never been a problem when the meter's been read.

You will need your MCS Accreditation Certificate which your installer will give you once they have registered your system. They should do this immediately after you have made your final payment.

Further information on how to apply for the feed-in tariff can be found on the Scottish Power web site and their FIT Application form.

  • We're having our system fitted tomorrow but this thread has me a little concerned - we also recently switched suppliers so don't really want hassle with a meter running backwards.

I've tried to google this and it sees it only affects the dial type meters. Our's is a 'digital mechanical' meter - not completely digital. So is ours likely to be affected by running backwards?

We recently switched to npower - I tried to ask them this question and they told me to email their solar people - so I did - only to get an autoreply saying they'll get back to me in 10 working days!

(They are not doing our solar installation).

So - is it only the dial type meters that are affected?

    Hi

Have a look at your existing meter and look for a ratchet symbol printed on the front, looks like a cog which can only rotate one way, if it has one it will not run backwards.

No. Mine is mechanical with rotating digits rather than dials, but it still runs backwards.
