squeaky car
Options
Hi all!
Finally got my money through after my accident and have purchased a new car. I picked it up last week from Evans Halshaw and its perfect, all apart from the fact i have noticed that it squeaks when i turn my wheel.
It sounds like a metally sound (like squeaky breaks) but doesnt appear when i apply the breaks, it appears when i trun my steering wheel ever so slightly. It doesnt do it all the time and seems to do it more when i turn right rather tahn left. Any ideas what it could be??
I have booked it in to be looked at by them tomorrow, it has over a year left of the ford warranty as it is only two years old so fingers crossed i wont have to pay anything. But also should they fix it free of charge even if it is not covered by ford warranty seen as though ive only had it a week??
Cheers

Could be poorly fitted or non-oem brake pads.... More likely a worn/damaged hub/bearing or CV joint.
I would be inclined to get the road wheels off the ground and check for any "play" or looseness.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

thanks for that but i wouldnt have any idea what i was looking for if i looked myself which is why i am taking it to the dealer. Was just wondering really if im going to have to fork out to get something fixed that was obviously there before i bought the car.0

Well, being EH, they're bound to claim it wasn't there before you bought it. This is because on paper it will have been inspected by a mechanic, where in fact the mechanic signed it off and went for a cuppa while the trainee was valeting it.
If you can prove somehow that it was like that before, then they are obliged to resolve the issue under the sale of goods act. Any looseness in the steering/suspension components would be reason to fail an MOT and thus should not have been sold.
In your position I would be inclined to take the car to an independent garage and ask for a mock MOT. It'd be well worth the cost if it finds any expensive faults and you'd be armed with the evidence needed to back up your case before the dealership get chance to cover it up.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

but its not old enough for an mot so they wouldnt have checked it before i bought it anyway! The bloke who sold it me said that they only service them if it is due, now ive had a look in my service book and its been stamped as the 4th of oct but i guess they dont check steering etc in a service.
Ive had it a week and its been doing it since day one! ive only driven 200 miles and i know i havent damaged it myself. What i am asking, as it is only two years old and still has a year of manufacturer warranty is steering/suspension components covered under warranty??0 -
^^ I'm told the mfr warranty does cover steering/suspension on Fords.
My suggestion was regardless of whether it needs or has ever had an MOT, if you've got warranty left then SURELY it's better to find any faults before that expires? Rather that than roll up at an MOT station and be told it needs expensive repairs.... Which would normally have been covered on the warranty. Risk mitigation, better safe now than sorry later.... It's the MSE way.
The service done was undoubtedly the bare minimum. If you privately sold a car for £3000, cheque in hand would you then spend £500 on a new set of tyre's before the buyer picked it up? or would you slap on some tyre black and hope nobody notices until the MOT next year?
Why would a business that's in the business of making profit, want to spend money on something they've already sold?
Anyhoo, GL with all that“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

and now it appears that the squeak has gone as soon as the rain has appeared? is it just a coincidence? stupid bloody thing!
think i will still take it for a check just in case, what do u reckon??0 -
Dry/worn suspension bushes it may return when they dry out again.
Get a can of WD40 or similar and spray one bush at a time until the squeak stops.
Thats the one that needs replacing.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
