You own the freehold to a block of 70 flats? Or a share of the freehold? Unless you own the freehold outright, you would need the consent of the other 69 owners. Which is unlikely, since only you woud derive any benefit.

Frames on top of a block of flats would need to be pretty substantial and well mounted and in the event of high winds have the potential to cause damage, or be damaged.

...also a flat roo is no good the panels need to be at a pitch

According to the tables zero inclination gives 90% of full output, slightly higher than a due east or west facing roof at the 'standard' inclination of 30 degrees, which would deliver about 86% of maximum.

  • If as is rumoured, the FIT scheme benefits will be reduced significantly for new sign-ups, could this also affect installations that are due to be commissioned imminently? Or only those which are commissioned after the deadline for this year's tarrif rate?

Our PV install was commissioned on Friday and hopefully I should have all the MCS paperwork ready to send to EDF today or tomorrow.

Already we have neighbours interested in signing up to the scheme, but in light of the recent news I'd be reticent to recommend it to them if the scheme could be slashed overnight before they could get the installation complete (but are committed financially). This risk must be putting a lot of people off if they've seen the reports over the last week or two.

  • Has the FIT been fixed for after April 2012 yet? I probably won't get set up before then but need to know what the return would be.
  • We have PV panels on our roof and are very pleased with them. I am a school governor and the school is possibly interetsed in benefiting from the free electricity. As schools operate during the day they are ideally placed to do this. is the FIT available to schools in any way. What about if the school can't afford the installation outright are there any options available to get PV with any schemes?

    Thanks
  • Are solar panels worthwhile for a roof that faces west/east? We are not due west; slightly west, south west.
  • I'm an owner and member of the residents committee in a block of 42 apartments in Manchester. How do I go about getting solar panels on our roof, I appreciate I will have to get a majority concensus from other owners? What impact will this have on the Freeholder (and their relationship with the Leaseholders)?

What are the main considerations that will impact on multiple owners? We have a management organisation that would manage the investment and any money we may make.

Step by Step Guidance appreciated and apologies if this has been covered elsewhere?
  • I had a solar PV system installed about three months ago and since then my electricity meter reading has reduced by about 300 units, during which time the solar system has produced about 1200 units. Is there a standard, and mutually acceptable, procedure for calculating how much we owe our electricity supplier during this period?
  • you owe what you used , the difference in readings between the time they were taken..unless you have an older wheel type then it gets real complicated
