Need new speakers how do i choose ???

Recently i have managed to break two speakers (somehow) both were the basic type. me and the oh have recently been using the pc for more and more music and videos so maybe time for an upgrade.
So people the question really is .... how cheap can i get a decent set of speakers for ???
Are things like sub woofers really needed and what other extras are worth it

Depends what you mean by 'cheap'. What's your budget?
I have a 2.1 speaker system - which is basically 2 satellite speakers and a subwoofer. Sound quality's OK and I've had it for 2 years or so.
If you have the cash then I'd invest in a decent hi-fi amp and speakers and hook your computer up to it.0
