If you meet the criteria for getting DLA, you can apply, even if you don't consider yourself 'disabled'.
On the other matter.
It's true there is some degree of fraudulent claims - however, beware of assuming someone is healthy based on seeing them once.
It could have been a good day, and lifting the washing machine put him in bed for a couple of weeks.
Sometimes it's really really hard saying 'no, I can't' - when you can at the moment, and you want to forget that doing something is likely to cause you major problems in the next days.
If you truly believe he's making a fraudulent claim, then write to the DWP and explain why.0 -
I am just having a rant ...........would not dream of grassing as I beliv what goes around comes around ............ I see him every day and lifting that washing machine did not put him in bed he walked into town the next day ............ I just cant understd why he as to tell lies he is well capable of doing a full time job ..........0

You can be capable of a full time job and still receive DLA as it's not an out of work benefit.
If you think they're commiting fraud and want to do something then as Rogerblack said, you can report them. Otherwise there's no point moaning.0 -
What goes around...
Certainly - however, I consider reporting someone for fraud, where I feel I have overwhelming evidence that it's going on to be a positive act.0 -
MrsManda am I doing some harm to you by having a MOAN ???????????
Thats what forums are for0 -
The fact that this man has been in prison is irrelevant. He did wrong, was caught and has now served his time. It should have no bearing on his claiming benefits.
If you have evidence that he is commiting a crime (and benefit fraud is a crime) then you should report him.
However, be certain of your facts. He could well be claiming DLA legitimately. As MrsManda has pointed out, you can claim DLA whilst working. It is for care and/or mobility needs.
ALso, DLA is given according to need, not for a specific condition. So, you may have osteo-arthritis, arthritis and a damaged cartilage, but if these conditons do not cause you to have care/mobility needs that satisfy the DLA criteria then you will not be entitled (....and if you are entitled then there is no shame in claiming!) ...equally this chap may not have any official diagnosis of a condition, and may well be physically capable of lifting a washin machine (maybe he suffered afterwards... or, .maybe his conditions are mental rather than physical in nature...) but if he has care/mobility needs that fit the criteria then he is legally entitled to claim DLA.
As for not being disabled unless you claim DLA....I see things the other way. I was disabled for some time before I claimed my DLA.
Personally. my GP - who signs my fit-notes - is well able to tell who is genuine. DLA is not an easy benefit to claim (despite what the media would like us to believe) , the paperwork is complicated, and there are medicals for many people. It is rarely given to people who are suffering purely from 'lazyness'.0 -
Not all illnesses are physical. He could have a mental illness, hence being able to put a washing machine in a 4x4.

Or he could have been having a good day.
If you have firm evidence that you believe he's committing fraud then report him.2019 Wins

Please don't forget that DLA can be paid for mental illness and not just physical illnesses too. And as an aside, how the heck can one man lift a washing machine onto the back of a truck?? Is he Geoff Capes??

Seriously though, bearing in mind the above posts - report if you think you should, and apply for dla yourself if you think you shouldTrying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

Our friend moved our washing machine down a flight of stairs and out into his van many years ago all on his own (plus a full tea chest of books), despite my warnings of inviting a hernia.
He had to have a double hernia repair about 8 years ago....and he was finally regretting not giving in to my nagging about developing a hernia :rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

My son (7) is on DLA, but he is not 'disabled' in the traditional sense, he has a lifelong condition that seriously affects his day to day life. He knows that we claim a disability benefit, and I tell him that 'disability' simply means that he needs a little bit more help than other kids do. You don't have to label yourself as 'disabled' if you claim DLA, just accept that life's that little bit harder, and that you need a little more support than other people. If you feel that you are entitled to DLA then go for it, there is no shame in it - and no one even has to know that you claim it!
As for this man, leave him to it. You don't know his reasons for claiming, and if it does turn out that he is claiming fraudulently then he will be found out at some point, and will suffer the consequences.0
