dream house - can't understand why we can't get it? please help

Four years ago we sold our then family home for just under £600k and as we were downsizing (slightly, lol!) from a 3000 sq ft house to one of around half that size, the buyers were interested in purchasing any items we were prepared to leave behind. We had masses of large furniture items - many of which were antique - as well as loads of pictures and approximately 100 framed taxidermy butterflies which hung on our hall walls and our new home just didn't have space for it all. We were happy to do this - obviously bearing in mind the purchase price this had nothing to do with stamp duty avoidance (which I would definitely not recommend) - and agreed a sale price of just over £5000 for the items concerned, so I would heartily agree that it would be very difficult to reach a total of £20,000 even if it was a whole house-full of stuff
