Premier Number to Book an Appointment forShengen Visa (Italy)

Hi there
I am planning to visit Italy this summer for which I need a Visa (Schengen Visa).
What I found from the site is that I have to call a premier number charged @ £1/min. The last time I applied for the French Visa (shengen), it was the same with them as well and the call lasted 15 minutes.
Is there any other way to book an appointment like e-mailing them or posting a request for appointment.

You can apply for an appointment for the French Embassy on line here:
https://www.consulfrance-londres.org/consulat/account/rdv/visa/choix1.php
They add extra appointments every Thursday afternoon from about 3pm0
