Wall Mounted Gas Heaters

I've noticed a house for sale which is fitted with wall mounted gas heaters. Haven't viewed the house internally but they seem to be basically gas heaters in all the main rooms of the house, with a balanced flue sticking out of the external wall under the window in each room. I've never come across this before (just central heating with radiators or air ducted).

Anyway, it's a 70's house so I'm guessing these heaters have been in there for a long time. Does anyone have any experience of this type of heating? If I bought the house I'd look to remove this old system and have combi bolier and central heating radiators fitted. Just wondered if all the gas pipes to all the main rooms will be a pain to have removed. Is it a lot of work?

Any rough estimates to remove this old system and fit a new central heating system? I'm in the north east.

    are they like this one?
its a baxi brazillia, they were very popular in the 70s.

you dont need to remove all the pipework. just cut off any visible pipework at each end.
the plumber can/will install a new 22mm pipe to the new boiler.

Haven't seen it yet but I'm sure they'll be the ones. Not a bad idea in theory but I can't think it's great to have to keep servicing them all and checking for carbon monoxide leaks.

I know a pal paid £1300 for a new combi boiler to be fitted, including relocating from where the previous old boiler was, plus all new valves on radiators and new timer control. Roughly how much extra would it be to install all new pipework, i.e. a whole new central heating system?

Thanks for the info. That's a lot of money but I suppose it's a pretty big job! The sort of job where you need to know someone in the trade.
