Nuisance tenants next door - but Landlord won't evict

I've had problems with my next-door neighbours, who are private rental tenants, for a number of months. Their behaviour is aggressive and abusive towards me and the local council have confirmed that it is "definite harassment."
However, their landlord has admitted that they want the money and are not in a rush to get the tenants out. (There have been other problems with the neighbours, too).
Does anyone know whether I can force the landlord to evict his tenants? I am so desperate to get them to move that I would pay a solicitor - but I am not sure whether this would be worth it.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

No
Has the Council put this allegation in writing??
Buy the place off him (he'll sell for the right price) then you can evict them.
Cheers!!!0 -
Thanks.
I don't think the council have, but can check. If I had enough money to buy another house I would have moved out of mine!0 -
Does your council have a neighbourhood team? You probably spoke to environmental health, who will tell you to keep a noise diary and may lend you noise recording equipment, but really it's the landlords initiative/landlord liaison team you need to speak to. With my local council, they liaise directly with the landlord to try and sort it out. Mind, evictions are much easier said than done. The best you can hope for is that they can't afford to pay the rent and get kicked out.0

I meant have they written to you stating "it's definite harassment " rather than, say any old Council employee agreeing with after you've bent his ear for an hour...0
-
Have you talked to other neighbours? Maybe if you all got together and had a chat with the landlord?0
-
Thanks both. I appreciate your responses.
I did speak to the team who deal with anti-social behaviour (rather than just noise pollution) and I've submitted a diary of events.
I was hoping that the landlord would have a conscience, but clearly not! There have been so many incidents that they have ignored.
The person from the anti-social behaviour team told me on the phone that it was definite harassment, and they emailed to say that my case is regarded as level 2 harassment (out of three grades). So I have had that in writing.
My worry is that the tenants are quite vindictive people, so I need to tread carefully as they are quite vengeful. But, the stress has had an impact on my health, so I do feel they should go. I may try the council again to see if they can step in.0 -
Ask the council whether they are prepared to seek a premises closure order under the Anti Social Behaviour Act.0

Expect an ASB complaint about you from them (and maybe others..) then, as HA will have policies & procedures for evicting tenants accused of ASB, some interesting conversations with your HA...
There's always 2 sides to every story..0 -
Iam currently experiencing problems with anti social behaviour from neighbours. In this case they have been told off for making lots of noise then a couple of weeks ago they had freinds round and were all fighting in the street. Two cars were damaged and the police came out twice. The house is a houising association property. They have been issued with a final warning, any more trouble and they will be evicted.
I was told by the housing association that the more complaints they get off neighbours the better. If there arent many they can not do a lot. They also need times of disturbances etc. In this case the police and local councillor were involved and 15 people in the street complained.
I have had emails and phone calls off the housing association telling me where they are up to with things and have been brilliant. I was worried about retaliation off these neighbours but as the whole street has complained (and a few have threatened them) it has been quiet. Im sure they will kick off again in a few months though.I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
Unfortunately, Housing Associations operate under a different set of laws than private landlords. Ultimately, deal with this nuisance behavour the same way as you would if they owned the place. The landlord has no legal obligation to get involved, he is not their parent.Life should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.0
