Threshers "buy 2 get 3rd free" RIP OFF!!!

Options
In Threshers today buying wine and taking what I thought was advantage of their "Buy 2 get 3rd Free" deal.....But watch out, because...if you buy 6...?

If like me you bought 6 wines on one xaction, the discount was NOT buy 2 & get 3rd free, it was "buy 6 and get the cheapest 2 of the 6 free" ergo...

2 X £8.99/ bottle plus 2 X £5.99/bottle should be a total of £29.96 for 6 bottles, but on checking the receipt (which you have to ask for, by the way...it's not offered) the bill was £32.96!!

When calling the branch in question, they tell me that it was a "mix 'n' match" transaction and that the system just took the 2 cheapest bottles as discount therefore instead of getting 1 "free" at £5.99 and the other "free" at £8.99, you get the 2 cheapest "free" - and this despite the shelf label for the wine concerned telling you that you buy 2 and get the third "free"!!

THIS IS A SCAM. Cheats & scoundrels....I'm for taking it to Trading Standards - what d'y'all think??

One thing for sure, if Threshers don't sort this, I'm never buying from them again.

This is how pretty much all buy x get x free offers work. The small print almost always says that it is the cheapest free, not the third one to be purchased.

There is no scam, you got three bottles and you only paid for two of them.
  • Lowest bottle free, check before making accusations.

Better to remain silent and be thought of as a fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt :D

raymond, lol, but it is a bit harsh. the solution to this has been more kindly pointed out by someone before, advising people how to beat the system. Borrieboy, You buy the 2 offers separately, with the most expensive together. :j

Well clearly all of you are for sharper shoppers than me......and me is only a "regular mug" that the Allied Domecq sharp marketing suits can "turn over" pretty easily......As it goes & FYI there's no in store "small print" re cheapest bottles etc. BTW...........but hey, MSE is all about how sharp you guys are and how stupid the rest of us are......

Oh ho.....now we know..! And there's me thinking that that'd be a completely needless excercise, but hey, this is the good old UK where the major corporate sport is tripping up punters so you can get one over on them......which is, er....why i thought MSE came into being....or have I got that wrong as well.......? Doh!

If its a problem, why not do two transactions, one of which has the two most cheapest wines plus one other, and the second transaction with the more expensive 3

ergo cheapest one free, and third most expensive free (if you do the maths right)

Have seen a lot of places that do this... makes programming the till system so much easier but at the same time when I have queried it the sales person has always corrected it either manually on the system or by putting it through as multiple transactions.
