Home insurance with Homeserve included, query

My home insurance has Homeserve included. Last year someone threw a stone through our window and Homeserve came and boarded it up. I didn't claim for a new window or anything as we were having double glazing fitted the following week.

I am now shopping around for new insurance but does this count as a loss in insurance terms or is using Homeserve a separate thing from my home insurance?

I am not sure what to put on the forms.

Yes it's a loss and needs disclosing.

If I had bought Homeserve direct and it had no connection with my home insurance would I have been better off as I don't think it would have occurred to me to mention it.
  • When you come to take out a new policy you do need to disclose any facts relevant to your cover so even if you did take out Homeserve separately, you should still declare should the incident then come to light, your whole claim could be thrown out.

If the homeserve is an add-on home emergency cover (aka separate from your main home insurance), then it works as the legal add-on and you do not have to disclose it. At least my renewal invitation does not mention it after I made a home emergency claim.

I rang my insurance company and they said I had 5 years no claim bonus (I didn't know you got this for home insurance) and they didn't mention the broken window so I you might be right. I think I am going to renew with them as it might be safer.
