if the router is expecting an ascii 8-63 character password, then you should use a readable password, not hex.........
No, I agree with what you are saying in that particular case. Some wireless routers seem to have implemented WPA, as a bit of an after though add on to WEP (Netgear?) where an ASCII string is expected, however other makes have a radio button to select if an ASCII string or a HEX string is to be used for the pre shared key.
It has been proved, that when an ASCII string is used with some makes of equipment, problems can arise. Therefore given the choice I always opt for using a HEX string where possible. One reason that I don't like Belkin equipment, is that even if we knew the exact model being used here, it is not easy to find the user manual to download, like you can with nearly every other manufacturer! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
still having problems and there is no neighbours network at the moment to help me connect, gave up after 30 minutes trying. I tried all sorts to get a similar effect to when the neighbours is there so that I could have a trick to kick mine into life when I was the only network about, but could find nothing that made the slightest difference. I checked signal strength in case with net stumbler but it is strong. Strength doesn't seem to be a factor with my problem.
I am now on my main wired PC and I am going to try changing my b & g thingy to b for a while to see if it helps.
No I dont have a mimo or pre-n router.
this problem is so annoying0 -

Hi, firewalls are all off as the router has a built in firewall.
By the way neighbours network was there just now, so I just selected it after giving up earlier and neighbours failed as usual and my one connected straight away as usual. Love to know why this works.0
