Selling with rats

Hello All

I'm selling my house. It has had occasional rat problems - we sometimes hear them in the wall cavity with next door, and about 2 years ago we hd a few come into the kitchen. We baited and they went away, but we keep them away by constantly baiting and plugging any holes etc. Never really found where they were coming from, but the measures we have taken have meant we haven't seen any for a while. We have used the council's environmental health department bfore to bait for us and check it all out.

Questions - is the fact that the council has been round publicly available information? My understanding is that it is not, or otherwise half of Britain would be on some kind of "rat map". I think it's understood to be a communal problem etc.

- am I required to declare the visit of the council on my survey questionnaire?

- are there any legal implications to selling a house with a rat problem?

    im sure an on going vermin problem should be recorded. however if your sure they have gone.
  • Well we haven't seen them in a long time, but how do you ever know when these things are solved? What does "solved" mean in this case?

    Not unless you're asked a relevant question, either on the questionnaire or verbally. Then you have to tell the truth.

    The last thing I did as we moved out of our previous (125 year old) house was sweep up the mouse droppings behind the fridge.

    They didn't ask, we didn't volunteer. ;)

    Our house had had rats when the nearby sewers were dug up. They told us- it had affected 4 houses for best part of a year. Good job as we found mummified rats under the floor boards and when fitted kitchen was removed there were big chunks out of the wall with rodent teethmarks (and another dead rat)

    Didn't put us off. Rats are everywhere.

    We did call out council when we found droppings. They said they were old ( left bait) but they did tell us that they had been lots of times before so even if no official log the council rat man knows!
    June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

    July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550

    October challenge £100 a day. £385/£3100

    Well, you're never more than 12 feet away from someone who will tell you that you're never more than 6 feet away from a rat.

    As long your potentials buyers has a cat as pet, you should be able to sell it without any guilty conscience.:D
