Recording Freeview?

Hi, i bought my son a TV for christmas with intergrated freeview. I just got him a DVD recorder today for his birthday thinking he would be able to record freeview but it seems he still needs a set top box for that.....does anyone know of anything else we can do without me having to fork out for another set top box.....seems a bit pointless having freeview on his TV if he still needs a box.
I would appreciate any ideas and suggestions before i waste even more money.
TIA Maggut

The DVD recorder needs a Freeview tuner.
If there isn't one built in then you will need to buy a standalone freeview box.0 -
Does the DVD recorder have a setting so that you can choose where the picture is coming from? Ours has to be set to scart before it can see the freeview signal.0

You have to select one of the AV inputs on the DVDR to get the picture from the TV via scart - it's likely to be called AV1 or E1.
As albertross said it also depends on the TV as well.0 -
Thanks very much for your quick reply i'll have to go through the manuals again, its all way to hard for me to get my head round.Share a smile today

OK connect the DVDR to the TV from AV1 to AV1 - this is for playback as it's the RGB scart.
Connect AV2 on your TV to AV2 on the DVDR - you could use this for recording Freeview by selecting AV2 on the DVDR.
However you will only be able to watch the programme you are recording so a PVR or extra set top box would be better.0 -
Thank you so much for that it really is appreciated!Share a smile today
