EDF Price Fix til 2014

Boiler IS working correctly, as of last month. It was faulty all last winter.:oGetting married 23rd June 2012!!:o0

We've already taken measures to reduce or energy usage as much as poss, energy saving pulbs, curtains on the front door and on the patio doors, we're not going to use the fire unless it's -20c, stopping usind the dryer, as thats a big drain on the electric.
I'm hoping that now the boiler is fix we should need it on for as long. It would come on at 5pm and we'd have to leave it on til 11pm as it didn't always fire up, but was still sucking the gas through ( problem with the motherboard and the ignition)
Question though re radiators: We have an oldish system with a wall mounted thermostat, which is set at 20c. Some of the radiators have indervidual temp controls, which are set at 1 or 2 at the moment. Are we doing the right thing, or should we turn the radiators up full and turn the thermostat down?
If the wall mounted thermostat is in a colder part of the house (often the hallway), but that area is still heated by a radiator without its own thermostat then you won't be far off right with the setting. Turn radiators right down, but not off, in rooms you are not using much. Set those radiators with their own thermostatic valves to something comfortable for that room.
The wall mounted thermostat has overall control over the heating system, so will stop the hot water flow to all radiators when it switches off, regardless of what individual radiator controls are asking for.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Yes I thought the same, but I checked the kwh prices and the "new" FP2014, which is actually called Price Protection 2014, have higher prices and in my area and my usage worked out to be some £110 more expensive than the FP 2014 you and I signed up to.I was a bit miffed to see that EDF are offering people £75 to sign up to their price fix 2014 plan. I signed up in August and didn't get any "sweetener" from them. Seems a bit unfair.
So even taking into account the £75 bonus which is only £25 for each of the 3 years we are still winning.0 -
Looks like sticking with EON is going to be the way forward.
How does the billing thing work for gas/elecric? Is it the same as phone billing i.e. you pay for what you use month by month?:oGetting married 23rd June 2012!!:o0 -

Basically yes. But be wary of estimated readings if they aren't able to get actual figures. Worth entering your own readings online if you can. If you're paying by direct debit, they'll set up an amount which should mean you pay the same each month throughout the year. Another hotly discussed topic on here though as to how they calculate the amount you should pay.
I have found E.On to be very good with customer service in the past though, so worth discussing with them what tariff you should be on and how much you should be paying.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Thanks for all your help. Theres an E.ON app for the iphone that says you can submit meter readings and I do EVERYTHING online so submiting regular readings won't be a problem. I'd rather go online every month with the correct reading rather than them gestimating it! Just waiting on my friend to call them up and tell then that she's cancelling her acccount so I can set mine up!:oGetting married 23rd June 2012!!:o0 -
If I choose to stick with E.ON, whom currently supply the house, do I have to enter into a contract and stay with them for a set period of time?
I'm still waiting for the kilowatt usage from my friend to get an accurate comparison.:oGetting married 23rd June 2012!!:o0 -

Not always, it depends on the contract. The more attractive (ie. lower cost) ones generally do have a contracted period and there can be a penalty if you want to leave before the end of it. After contracts complete, they put you onto their more expensive "standard" tariff. If you have an open ended contract, they don't give you a discount on your final bill when you switch away, but there are ways around that.
You really have to look at the individual tariffs to see what their conditions are. Bit of work unfortunately, but better to go in with your eyes open!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
