Suspension of tax credits

Hi. Grandaughter and partner, he works full time and they have a young son. Were in receipt of WTC and CTC then two weeks ago for no reason these were 'suspended.' She contacted them and they said last week suspension had been lifted but today no money so rang them again and they said it would be lifted which is strange as previously said 'it had been!' Nothing in their situation has changed so any advice please to get this sorted would be appreciated.Bring back the days when you could go and speak with someone face to face-was it any better or am I dreaming?!

Tell them to ask for an appointment at their local HMRC Enquiry Centre and they can speak face to face with someone there.

Reasons for suspension could be that their claim is being checked because they are claiming for childcare costs or they have said they are in receipt of DLA, or there is a miss-match on the claim. They can find out at the Enquiry Centre and if need be they can see if they can do anything to get the payments resumed quickly.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Gave her advice and she rang and is waiting fot them to ring with appointment day/time and we found out her local HMRC is only bout a mile away! re childcare or dla, neither of these applicable.

I have always found the staff at my local office in Inverness vey helpful. You might find your local office is only open part time. Write to you MP to complain!!

Grandaughter had return phone call but was told they do not make appointments to talk about wtc and ctc. She received a letter saying they would give the money owed to her as a small added sum on the normal wtc and ctc from next week so it is going to take weeks to get back the money. Are rent people aware of these situations when people cannot pay rent because of these suspension probs? Sure they are not happy about it.

Do you mind if I ask which Enquiry Centre this was? I find it strange that they don't deal with Tax credit queries face to face :eek:
