Builders covering up my security camera

I am getting a new driveway installed but am away from home during the week whilst the workers are putting in the new driveway. I've had quite a few issues with the job and it's running into a third week.

I have a CCTV camera looking out onto the driveway and it's set up to record 10 seconds when movement is detected. I can also watch the live video stream from wherever I happen to be in the world.

The camera is located inside my property in a window sill, looking out. I use it to monitor suspicious activity as I tend to spend the working week in another country usually.

The workers have blocked the view of the camera by putting up a large plasterboard sheet in front of the window.

I've had lots of issues with these workers and don't want to antagonise them as the job is nearly complete. However, they are compromising the security of my property.

If anything were to happen whilst I was away I would have no CCTV evidence.

So, do I phone/email them or just leave it? I guess they feel they are being spied on but i'm more concerned about security of my property as i'm not there. They have keys to the side alleyway and my garage which they're using to store their tools and machines in.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion!

The builders obviously don't like being "watched", so just tell them the camera is there for your own security concerns when there is nobody present and while you have no concerns with them covering the camera up while they're on site, ask them to ensure it is not covered whenever they leave.
They still might not like it as covering/uncovering it would indicate the times they arrive & leave, bit like clocking in and out!

I agree - they think it's there to spy on them.

Trust works both ways....Would you like it if i credit checked you before i did any work?

To have a customer standing over you/constantly inspecting would annoy any tradesmen. Most are not interested in doing a bad job, cutting corners or raking through your wifes knicker drawers so just let us get on with it!

It happens all the time in business when buying phones, furniture and a whole load of other services so no I wouldn't if you were performing a service costing hundreds of pounds that was paid after the work was done.

A credit check is mandatory on builders especially any that are LTD as often private people have to grant the builder credit, by loaning him money up front for "materials" the builder will get on 30 day account, often not seeing these materials for some time.
So yes, a credit check on anyone asking for "money up front" is a very good idea, for money up front is credit !"
