Spatulas - do you have a great one?

This is a slightly odd question, but it's my birthday coming up and I'd like a nice kitchen spatula (one for stirring frying foods etc). Our current one is a black plastic that melts slightly so has a rough edge which is rubbish to clean. I'd get a metal one but have had one in the past which scratched the non-stick pans to bits. Has anyone got a recommendation for an (preferably not super expensive - MSE
) easy to clean non scratchy non melty non bendy spatula?

its not an odd question, i find the spatula issue quite complicated
you cant use a metal spatula on a non stick pan so it calls for plastic, these melt
some of them have such long handles (the metal ones) that even if you could use them on the pans they are unweildy
the wooden ones i find sort of buckle on the bit you use to pick up the food, so although they're ok for non stick, they're only really any good for flinging food round the dish rather than picking things up and turning them over
im sure if i think about it more, i have more spatula related information to impart0 -
I got one of these recently (although it was cheaper than this, but can't remember where from!)

Multi-purpose and hasn't melted yet.

go for one of the new silicone type utensils - plastic, but non-melty
eg http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kitchen-Craft-Colourworks-Silicone-Turner/dp/B003URCAYO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318862458&sr=8-1

I think the items you are talking about are 3 different things - a wooden 'stirrer' for stir-fries, a fish slice (which I think you mean when you say metal spatula) and a spatula which to me would be plastic and only used for baking cakes! I say you should get one of each.0

Have just bought a set of kitchen rack utensils (you know for hanging up) from Ikea, and they are brilliant. Heat resistant and non-melty, neat and small to get into corners and things. Am so delighted with them. I agree that buying a spatula is a difficult thing. The last one I bought is too soft, so it just bends, a complete waste of time.
I can't do a link for some reason, but the name is GNARP and the article code is 001.142.52. Not available online, however. Cost £2.70.0 -
Pampered chef ones, my friend used to be a 'host' for them and when I attended 'umpteenth' parties these were always one of the cheaper things, so I bought some as gifts, still going strong 3 years later.
I agree with having three for different things though.OPs so far £42,139

Silicone spatulas are the way forward. Everywhere does them nowadays. Here's a link to a Le Creuset one just as an example.

I love the Le Creuset spatulas. They're not the cheapest but I live very close to a Le Creuset outlet shop which makes a big difference - it's worth looking for one if you're planning to invest in Le Creuset.
The spatula bits are flexible but they have wooden handles which mean they don't bend too much, and the handles are detachable for washing. I also haven't managed to melt one yet and I have a rather lovely pumpkin shaped one expecially for this time of year lol
