Just a quick mention that the Battery Truth website that reports that Rayovac batteries outperform the other two is owned by Spectrum Brands inc. who just happen to also own....Rayovac!

So not entirely unbiased then. In fact the report they cite showed that Rayovac batteries last around 2 hours shorter than the leading brand (Energiser), but they still give better value for money as they're so cheap.

Better value still would be to buy some rechargeables and a charger though :)
  • Yeah...bought some of these before xmas...for the dosh they represent good value, but their life is a tad short in comparison to the bigger names

Best ones are actually Maximum Plus where the listed price for 4xAA is 40p (so I think they may be the same thing) . These are often out of stock as they're always the first to sell.

BUT you can get a further 10% discount if you're a member of hotukdeals :)
    Can I help?
  • Which are the cheapest 'cheap' batteries to buy online for using in clocks, etc including P&P?
  • I bought two packs of these this week (AAA).

One packet is best before 2011, and one is marked 'Best Before October 2006'!!!! Don't know how much difference it makes that they're out of date, but they still could have mentioned this on the website?! :(

If you go to morrisons they do their own brand long life ones for 79p a pack but they are always on promotion at 2 for a pound. If you only want a few, these are the ones to go for, and their life isn't too bad considering the price.

Shouldn't make too much difference if they're out of date as long as they've been stored sensibly. Alkalines hold their charge for ages... I've used batteries which were well past their date and they still had a full charge.

I would mention it to SVP customer services... they are excellent at sorting problems out - one reason I always buy from them.
Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.

I don't think I've EVER put a new battery in a clock - I find that once a battery has seemingly given up in another appliance, if you then put it in the clock, it'll power the clock for about a year!

& then when the battery no longer works in the clock, be sure to discard the dud battery by lobbing into a neighbours bush...great fun, good for the enviroment & plants just love that battery acid.

BTW If you *really* don't like your neighbour, freeze some bleach in ice cube trays & lob the frozen cubes onto his well manicured lawn after it gets dark...just make sure it's warm enough overnight for them to defrost.©**
