And possibly cause a fire to start!
Keep at them for safety's sake. Check your smoke alarms are working, just in case.0 -
i did try and explain that, but they dont seem to care about any danger like that, or to our health (i have a 5 & 3 year old), only danger to their workmen! They're supposed to be calling me back again, regarding some sonic rat repellent devices that they're gonna install, but i just want the repair done and the ones in there dealt with so that i dont need the sonic rat repellers!!! But i'll take them anyway just to be sure lol.
My smoke alarms do work-but they're also connected to the mains!!!!!! its a joke!!!!0 -
Mains smoke alarms should still have a battery fitted. Might be worth replacing it just to be on the safe side. They have this so that a power cut doens't render them useless.0

Sorry you have to put up with this, it sounds very annoying.
If it was me I'd check how much a private pest company would charge, in case it would be worth getting them in to deal with it on my own.... and as a long term plan save for a privately owned house where I wouldn't be reliant on the council or HA :-(0 -
A lot of local councils waive the charges for rat control if you are in receipt of certain low-income benefits. It might be worth getting in touch with the council again to ask if they can send someone out - it's not a good idea to wait for your housing association to sort this out if it's now affecting your electrics.0

OMG, that's incredibly dangerous. This must be sorted now!zoesmummy_2006 wrote: »Last week all my lights upstairs went out when i went to bed. downstairs were fine, but upstairs-nothing!! strangely they started working again the next morning when my dad had a look, none of the trip switches had gone. My dad has been up in the attic to put down some traps etc and he's noticed that they've been chewing at the wiring and he can see the copper, which leaves me now thinking that that could be the reason my lights went off.
Have you told the HA that you can see copper wiring on the mains cables?
This is a massive fire risk, I'm not sure who you should ring if the HA won't do something the same day, but there must be someone. I'm wondering if the local fire brigade would be interested? Certainly someone at the council should be?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
1. dont let the HA fob you off.
2.your house is a potential fire hazard now as their chewing through the light cables.
3. this is an inherrited problem, insist you WILL NOT PAY THEM, under their tenancy agreement their properties are to be free from things like rats and of satifactory condition, you health is at risk because RATS urinate constantly, their urine is harmfull to humans, and as such your and childrens health and safety is at risk.
4.demand that all loft insulation is safely removed in sealed bags, to prevent anything getting on you carpets and you coming into contact with RAT pee when you want to store things in your attic and anything you place up there becoming contaminated etc and new insulation replaced any chewed through copper lines stripped out and replaced from the fuse box to the lights.
DO not pay this is their problem this is IN THEIR PROPERTY!! its their responsability to ensure their homes are fit to be let out this is why they removed them wbefore you went in but cheap as they are didnt bother to find out the entry point.
sounds like the HA im with begining with C. H. A.
this has gone on too long. they carry flea's too.
i hope they fit your neighbours cavity wall insulation properly by removing all the RAT carcusses from the wall or there will be a nasty smell in the summer times.
get harsh, get your MP on the phone, tell the HA you want them to put tyou up in a hotel untill this is resolved, and you will inform the rent office in your local authority to stop payment of whilst your at the hotel untill the problem is sorted if they refuse or say you cant do that tell them you can because THEY HAVE BREACHED YOUR TENANCY AGREEMENT BETWEEN LANDLORD AND TENANT you will pay the hotel yourself and take them to court and still inform the rent office to stop payment whilst your not living there.
dont go up there with an airrifle, its an enclosed space with alot of places for rebound of a pellet too dangerous not even a professional would do that.0 -
Your house is not currently fit for human habitation hun. its INFESTED with rats!
You are going to have to get tough - inform your HA that you are taking this further and meanwhile MOVE OUT! your kids health and safety is being put at risk! contact your local Shelter organisation, phone your MP, phone the press!
This is NOT acceptable! Rats pass on the most horrible diseases and you dont have to actually touch one to contract it!0 -
You should also contact the Housing Ombudsman Service
I hope you soon get sorted, sounds hideous as well as dangerous.:dance:Mash p'tater, mash p'tater:dance:0
