Smudgey Signature Strips

in Credit cards
Yes : "Well done, Me".
I have just received a new credit card that is supposed to last for three years. I signed it with what I thought was a biro (seems it
was actually some kind of "gel" pen), left it to dry for twenty minutes
(just in case), popped it in my wallet and found the ink was still wet enough for my surname to smudge.
At least FORTY minutes now since I signed the ink is STILL wet.
How important are signatures now Chip & Pin is in effect?
Would it be stupid of me to try to wash all the ink off and start again?
Should I request another card ?
I assume if I do TOO MUCH to it (like stick a PROPER piece of paper on the Signature Strip) it'll look like it's been nicked and tampered with.

Can you not just wipe it off, clean it and resign?
Not that I can even recall the last time someone checked my sig, but I know what you mean about having it done.0 -
Call them up,tell them you had it your back pocket but you sat down and broke the card in half, they wont mind sending you a new one.I have a deep burning indifference0

I very very rarely have to sign for anything these days & some of my cards remain unsigned. ( no doubt a bad idea )
So I would not at all be concerned by a smudgey signature. Perhaps try to sign over it with a regular biro so it has some definition.0 -
If it was blue you can smudge it further and then write over it with black ink
Or just completely ignore it. Its rare that anyone checks your signature now, unless you leave the UK.0 -
Ditto the above. Non one has checked my signature strips since my latest cards were issued and that includes transactions that requires a signature
I find the best pen to use is one designed for writing on CDs. An absolute faff, methinks, as biros or fountain pens or whatever really, all worked fine on cards of old but then cards of old used actual paper on the strip.
Far to clever these days... oooh no can't use paper that would be old fashioned, we must try and make absorbent plastic...Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
