Tax credits and overpayments

very brief over view of my situation!.. Apologies if I ramble.
I was receiving WTC and CTC and throughout last year kept the tax office up to date at every change thus expecting the payments to be exactly right!,,,
well now they are saying I have been overpaid I have written and filled in a form explaining why I dont think I am responsible for it.
one of the reasons being when I called up in June to renew my tax credits I was on the phone for over an hour and luckily kept the name/date/time etc because when they stopped my benefits they said it was because I have not called!..

Luckily after investigating the matter they realised that the lady I dealt with hadn't hit the "go" button so none of the details where held!! .. they sent me £30 as a good will gesture.... my argument is.. is that what happened when I updated them in the year .. and it wasn't "held" in the system. ????

Anyway my question is now when I put all my details in direct.gov it tells me I am entitled to WTC and CTC, so my question is
whets the likelihood of me ever being paid WTC or CTC again, I am supposed to be entitled to it now having checked all the on line benefit checkers and with me working full time but my husband is of due to ill health we are really struggling with no benefits.

if they come back and say actually you are responsible for it do I appeal again? I am so scared of the result of this.

apologies if i have missed out any details if i have please feel free to ask any questions.
before anyone judges me for being on benefits up untill 2010 both my husband and i worked so we have only ever claimed WTC or CTC since april 2010,
