Car Insurance - Car Purchase Date

Here is the situation. I am taking over as the main driver on my mum's old car, we are changing the registered owner of the car to put it in my name with the DVLA.
I am now shopping around for car insurance quotes and there is a question asking when I purchased the car. If I put the date the car was purchased it's over £150 cheaper than if I put October 2011 (when we simply changed the name on the registration document). I have been driving it for two years and we are simply changing all these to reflect the fact that in the coming weeks I'll be driving it more and hence, the main driver.
Which one do I put?

I do not think the online proposal forms are fully geared up to deal with a case like yours.
I would phone a few of the insurers (from the list of suitable quotes) and give them the details of your case since you do have experience of driving the car, which I believe is the important bit of the info that is impacting the premiums. You may find that you get more competative quotes by speaking to a real person than relying on the online systems. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The date your name appeared on the V5.
If you say you owned it before that you may find them rather cross at why you insured it previously as belonging to someone else.
Rather cross may leave you with no insurance. And having to explain to your next insurer you have had a policy cancelled because
you played with the truth.
When was the vehicle purchased? Well its a 1998 car so someone purchased it in 1998.. Wasnt me but lets not let that stand in
the way of a cheaper quote eh. What you wont payout my claim and are suing me for 3rd party costs.. HELP...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
