Seriously confused...car insurance.

 Can ANYONE help me out here.
My partner (HWTHMBO) is the policy holder and I am the main driver (named driver on our poilcy) of our 1997 ford escort estate petrol L 16v, for which _I_ am the registered keeper (and owner as I paid for the bloody thing). WHAT is the difference between Owner and registered keeper???

There is 6 years protected NCB on the policy (in HWTHMBO's name) - Surely, as I am the MAIN DRIVER the NCB is mine? Can anyone tell me if this is a correct assumption?

So our renewal comes through and If I do *own* the NCB our premium is around £140 :j (compard to our renewal notice from NU £245!! ). However if I don't have the NCB then the renewal is £230  - to start my policy from scratch depsite having at least 3 years claim free motoring on HWTHMBOs policy).

I have a dilemma here:

Do I cancel HWMBO's policy on MY car get my own insurance policy with him as a named driver with Swiftcover for £225 (includes £50 cashback).

or keep his policy with him as policy holder but me as main driver and use his protected NCB to get the cheaper premium again from Swiftcover at £135 (inlcues £50 cash back)

Hope someone can help me out here -
Although I know ONLY _I_ can make that decision at the end of it.

What would YOU do?
and Why?

HWTHMBO is older than I, by 4 years. He probably drives my car about 6 times per year.

thanks in advance for any advice or help you can give me.

It's his policy, so it's his NCB.

The fact that your are the main driver and owner/registered keeper of the vehicle is irrelevant.

Many insurers won't insure cars where the owner/registered keeper is not the insured, but many others will allow it where it's the spouse who is the owner/registered keeper.

    Owner is the legal owner.

Registered keeper is the person registered with DVLA as responsible for the vehicle.

The two are often the same, but also sometimes not.
