Something like this might be a good idea http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7002881/c_1/1|category_root|Garden+and+DIY|14418702/c_2/2|14418702|DIY+tools%2C+ladders+and+workbenches|14418713/c_3/3|cat_14418713|Tool+kits|14418724.htm
Most batteries require 10mm & 13mm spanners, sometimes 8mm. Looks like the clamp is top mounted which makes life easier. Most pictures on the web look like all 10mm nuts.0 -
If the car has been in regular use Charging it wont do you the slightest bit of good unless something has drained the battery such as leaving lights on, if this is the case then it will reinstate some charge over the day and start up on its own usually.
Once an old lead acid battery becomes completely discharged, its usually KO/d
A trip for a new battery might save you a lot of heartache and time.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
If it's the original battery (or if it's 6+ years old), don't try to charge it, get a new one. When you realise your dicing with explosive gases and sulphuric acid (that's eats you as readily as it eats paint work), the £45-£60 for a new battery really isn't a lot of money.
This explains it all fairly well“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Alas she had the seat belt jammed in the door all weekend so the lights where on.
I'll do a test charge before buying a new one. I've not looked at the battery so I've no idea of the age.
I'll try starting it before I remove the battery.0 -
Toyota are usually 10mm0

Got the battery out of the car. It says copyright 1999 so it may be the same age as the car. Looks like I better buy a new one.0

Doesn't look promising, but that's only the date of the copyright.... Batteries usually have a date of manufacture of them OR a serial number made partially of the DOM.
It's always best to be safe though, a new battery would have been cheaper than repairing the paintwork after I had one explode on my old 306.
Got mine from these guys, pretty good sevice/price when compared to the likes of Halfrauds.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thanks.
Sadly I'm going to have to go the root of buying from a shop as I've lent the wife my car for tomorrow whilst I get hers sorted. This day off has turned into many new tasks she has found around the house
I did stick the charger on it but it flashes error messages anyhow.0 -
Don't forget if you live anywhere near a scrap yard your old battery is worth around £5.00 instead of taking it to the tip0

A complete discharge to zero, just about sees a old battery off, when they are new you can get them back from the dead, but once they get on in years, once they go, thats usually it....bit like us I suppose.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
