Will they backdate my claim?

I lost my job on August 30th, and started on JSA 3 days later, however, I didn't apply for Housing Benefit at the time as I was told by friends that I would have a job waiting for me.
I've waited around for the job offer to come through and it is now mid-October, so it's looking unlikely. I have borrowed September and October's rent from my boyfriend, but now its looking like I won't be able to pay him back for the forseeable future. He doesn't live with me btw.
Will HB backdate my claim so I can pay him back?

You need to ask the housing benefit office at the council.

As with DWP benefits, your Local Authority will require you to show "good cause" for not having applied at the time.

It'll depend on the policy of your Authority, whether they consider your reasons "good cause".
