help and advice please

Hi hope this is in the right section as i am new to this site however i am in need of some help and advice. sorry if this is a long post

about two months ago my partner and i bought a all the compenants needed to build a computer from a computer shop near where we live, we have been to this shop many times and never had problems. however once the computer was built the computer would keep turning its self on and off so we took the computer back and they said they would test it as it looked like a fault in one of the compents they tested both the power supply and the motherboard and said that it was a faulty motherboard and replaced it. we went hoem and the computer was fine. that is untill yesterday when the computer would not turn on again we phoned the shop and they said that it now sounded like the problem had been the powersupply after all and that it had damaged the motherboard and that it had probally done the same to this motherboard. we were told we had to take the compenets out of the case as they would not accept it in the case and then take it back to the shop. however when my partner was removing it from the case one of the pins snapped. he took it back to the shop where he was told he had to sign a recipt to say he was dropping the parts off. after he had signed the sheet they then told him that the sheet also said that he was not going to get a replacmenet motherboard as he had snapped a pin off.

now my question is if they failed to diagnose the problem in the first place which led to this board being damaged can they refuse to replace it even if a pin was broken off as it would not have been removed had it been working in the first place. and does the letter he signed stand if they misled him in to what he was signing (i know he should of read it but he is dyslexic and not a very good reader)

thanks for the help just really want to know where we stand and what can we do about it as its not a cheap bit of equiptment.

    No, Just no.

Just to sum up, you purchased individual components and built the system yourself.
PC fails so you take it back to the shop where I can only assume they did a Free Of Charge diagnostics to find out what part is faulty (as all parts were purchased from them), they diagnosed the Motherboard as the main culprit.

System still misbehaving after you take it home, and Shop has diagnosed over the phone that as MoBo has been replaced, fault must be the PSU, (which is fair enough, most times it is), and they say that you have to remove the PSU (and thats fine as thats all they need) and in the process of removing it, you've damaged the motherboard.

If thats right, then you have absolutely no claim.

Sorry, might not be what you want to hear, but unfortunately you damaged the system and not them.
  • ok thank you it was just with them saying they wanted to see the motherboard and the powersupply thought there might be something we could do it was a long shot thanks for your help though
