Incorrect Met Police court summons

I received a court summons on Saturday saying that I failed to identify the driver of my car when caught speeding in April this year. However, this is not true, as I wrote to them asking for a photo ID (wasn't sure if it was me or my husband driving to work) and when they replied back saying I couldn't have one I wrote saying my husband was driving.

When my husband received the form back to fill in he noticed that he had been sent completely the incorrect details (driving a white van in Watford instead of a black Audi in Richmond). He emailed the Met and said he wasn't driving the van and never had done and they replied back saying they'd go back to the nominee to check the details. We then never heard back, so we assumed that since the 28 day limit had passed, they could no longer prosecute.

Then suddenly we've received this letter saying I'd failed to pass on the driver details.

Any advice would be appreciated. I don't want to go to court, but it appears that I have no choice - I'm certainly not pleading to guilty to something I didn't do.

  • Thanks for that - I'll do that right away
