Tax Credits Compliance Letter!!
Gem2011
Was just wondering if someone could help me...
I have recieved a letter off Tax Credits...some place in cardiff, the Compliance Operations Department..
First off they say that they enquire every year into people's tax credits to make sure that they have awarded the right amount based on the customers cicrumstances and income and that our award has been selected for an equiry..
Has anyone else had one of these??? Or should I be alarmed???
I havent done anything wrong with tax credits that I know of, and I have updated whenever OH has changed jobs or his income has changed, as well as updating my renewal on time so Im confused as to why I've had one of these in the first place..
Also they want loadsssss of information, not for the whole year, just some bank statements, payslips for the first few months of 2011, contract of employments, child benefit proof and any other income details off us, apparently by 5th November...
This letter is dated 6th October and I recieved it yesterday 16th October
I'm due to go in to have my baby on 31st October and really this is a BALL ACHE I dont need...
Its going to take me more than a couple of weeks to gather up all this information, thats even if I can...
Child Benefit dont send proof apparently no more you have to use bank statements as proof but they want a letter so can see thats not going to achieved in a few days...*rolls eyes*
I've got to ring his previous employment from 2010 and ask for his p60 which he had in October when he left but that was a year ago and I havent got it now PLUS his employment contract.....god knows why they want that when hes not there no more but apparently any employment between 2010 and 2011 they want, so thats not going take a week...
It says on the back that I can ask to stop the check at any time, and if they think that they should continue they will ask some independent tribunal to decide what should happen. The tribunal tells them to stop unless they can convince them to be alloweed to continue...but I dont want to seem like a fraud....I arent conserned at all they'e asked for this, I just cant understand why? and its just that I've got so much more to do at this moment in time!!!! I did my renewal in april for god sake!!!
Can someone please offer me advice...
I dont really want this now...I'm having a baby in 2 weeks!!!

Apparently people are selected at random for these checks - it's nothing personal!
Re: child benefit. I had a similar problem. The website says they don't send out letters any more, but I sent them an email explaining I needed a letter of proof and they sent me one!
If I was you, with baby's birth being so imminent, I'd ring them up and explain your circumstances. Tell them that you are complying with their request and requesting all of the info they want, but you cannot guarantee you can a) get the info in time and b) give birth in the meantime! Follow it up with a letter confirming the telephone conversation. I'd love to say it's a fool proof plan, it's not, but it may support your case.
Try not to stress!0 -
Or someone has reason to believe you're hiding something and reported it as a fraud. You'll never know.0

Since your pregnancy is so advanced get your OH to gather the information together. After all it's his tax credit claim too.
Good luck with the baby :TThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Has your OH joined a "salary sacrifice" scheme? This may be the reason for wanting his contract of employment - the manual is very cagey about salary sacrifice, other than for childcare vouchers which is specifically allowed. Even if it's for pension, even though normal pension contributions are specifically allowed as a deduction.0
