Hi, I currently have an iPhone 4 and iPad 2, working great with iCloud etc. However looking into getting my wife an iPhone 4 (possibly S if they'll offer it free on her upgrade). As far as I know I'd have to set hers up with my iTunes account to be able to use the apps I've already downloaded for mine? Otherwise we'll have to pay all over again?
But, then, can iTunes cope with having different devices using different iTunes accounts?

She can have her own itunes account.
Yes, but then we will have to repurchase all of the apps, won't we? And how does iTunes on my PC deal with different accounts, as I've only doin one place to sign in, and it's my ID that currently has it authorised...
Also, what about FaceTime and iMessenger, don't they use your Apple ID?Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

i had an iphone 3g and when i upgraded to iphone 4 i connected it to itunes and it downloaded all my apps onto the the new phone but they all went back to the beginning i.e all the games went back to level 1 and i thought i had lost all the extra lenses i had bought for my hipstamatic camera but when i went into it on the phone it just said something like 'you have already downloaded this' and downloaded them again from the app store without having to pay again
so i think it will be the same if you sync the new phone you might just have to go into the phone itself on itunes and customise what you want synced with the new phone
hope that makes sense

So far as I know they all allow use on more than one device (my iPad can use all of my iPhone apps); but the point is that if a friend came round, and wanted some of my apps that I'd bought, it wouldn't let them use them, because the Apple ID used to purchase them would not match: this is as far as I know at least, and is why I'm asking.
Either we both use my ID, but I think this will affect iMessenger and FaceTime
Or she gets her own ID, but this will mean that the apps purchased under my ID will not be able to be installed onto her phone and we will need to purchase them all over again. Plus I do not know if iTunes can cope with more han one ID authorised at a time?Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
you can run different devices on the same itunes account and have separate ids for facetime & imessenger.
you need to go into settings -> imessenger or facetime and you see 'receive at' or 'you can be reached for video calls at'... and here you need to enter a unique email such that you can communicate between the different devices even though the apple id is the same.
I have an iphone & 2 ipod touches on the same id. they share the same apps, music etc but can send/receive different messages (or facetime others/each other)0 -

I forgot to mention and its not obvious, the default address is the one of the apple id. only once you add a 2nd address (and verify it), you can remove the first address from the list0 -
I've got an app on my iphone that my friend purchased, and they also have it on their phone, it can be done.
How many of the paid for apps does she want on her phone?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Its easy - i have 3 iphones and 2 ipads on 1 itunes account. I then share icloud between my wifes iphone and mine to share calendars , contacts and iclound email. After that all 5 devices have seperate imessage , icloud and gamecentre accounts.
The 5 devices also have accesss to all music and apps downloaded by any one device0 -
If yu are on O2, and you only have a month left of a contract, they will pay 20% of that off so you can buy an iPhone 4S. Its free until 31st October if you are already an existing O2 customer on a £36.00 per month contract. Everything is taken from your phone, backed up and then put back on your phone. I have an iPhone 4 and I have fallen in love with it again. My boyfriend just bought the 4S and it is amazing! Get it for free whilst you can!0
