Saffron BS

Just wondering if anyone here has an account with them?

How is the customer service? Online banking? etc... Their saving rates seems very good. Don't want to open an account just yet as I don't want too many pings on credit report (thinking of looking at the co-op offer tomorrow, too)

AFAICT their savings accounts don't offer any form of credit so the credit report check, which will just be an ID check, won't appear to other lenders.

Saffron BS has just increased the rate on their Goal Saver and e-Saver account from 2.85% to 3.15% so I think this is the top rate for a no notice account without an introductory bonus. Previous issues of the account are still (apparently) paying 2.85%

Their online banking is a bit clunky but it does what it says.

I have an online savings account interest paid gross monthly. If you are dependent on expecting fast payments for any money transfer payments to a linked account it is possible that you will be dissappointed. I can confirm that the online banking computer service is frequently either unavailable or unexplained logins fail.

Aren't they obliged to have faster payments available by the end of this year? Or does that only apply to banks?

The official word is "As of 1 January 2012, it will be a requirement of all financial institutions that, where money is sent electronically, it will need to reach the destination account by the close of business on the day following the day that it was sent."

Considering Saffron, this seems to be the case already. I've made a few deposits in the week and my account has been updated by the next working day.

I suggest that you try a log in right now because the service once again is unavailable.

PS a money transfer transaction made at Saffron BS on the 23rd December 2011 was credited to the receiving linked account on 30 December 2011. Your and my experience are at varianace

So, a day late? Maybe they didn't think your bank was FP capable?
