Unpaid wages and holiday pay

The company that I used to work for declared to its staff on Wednesday 31 August 2011 that it was going into Voluntary liquidation but would continue to trade for 2 more days, so our leaving date was Friday 2nd September. We were told that we didn't have to work the final two days but would be paid by the government if we did. As I was employed as a part-time book-keeper/wages clerk my last day so happened to be Wednesday 31st, the same day we were told. On the following day I was contacted by both the insolvency practitioner and director of the company. They had a problem, namely that they needed me to process the P45’s for the staff. I was told that I could claim the money owed for doing this work on the RP1 form, along with my statutory redundancy pay & holiday pay.
I received a payment from the Insolvency Service early last week, but it was for less than I had expected. When I contacted the Insolvency Service Payment Office I was told that the payment received was for the statutory redundancy element only. My claim for holiday pay and unpaid wages (ie the time spent doing the P45’s) had not been authorised by the insolvency practitioner and I was advised to contact them. Upon doing so, I was told by the insolvency practitioner that they were waiting for information from the directors of the company so that my holiday pay & unpaid wages could be verified.
I have made several phone calls to the IP since then, each time being told that they are still awaiting a reply from the directors. I really do sense that I am going round in circles with this. It has been nearly 7 weeks since I was made redundant. Does it really take that amount of time to verify wages information? I do feel that the Directors of the company are delaying things on purpose. If so, how long can they delay things and is there some other way I can obtain my holiday pay etc. I am also aware that some of my former work colleagues are in the situation. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, David

Not really. There is no employer to sue in court, and it could take months to sue anyway! I am afraid that nagging is the only way - the RPS cannot pay up until they have authority to. Sorry.0
