    Respect for doing it via HTML. :)

    For something slightly different see below.

    I've taught myself the basics the same as you re. tables etc. However for the photos on my site I've used Visual Lightbox you can start with a thumbnail, run a slide show, use different skins etc. It's all set up using a wizard.

    It's free (requires an email for the download) I get the occasional email about new products, but acceptable.

    Perhaps something to consider?
