  • I can't offer much advice but a couple of questions that come to mind are
    - When was the agreement to do the work made, with reference to when they were declared bankrupt?
    - Likewise, when did money actually change hands?

I would have thought it's generally frowned upon if a bankrupt knowingly incurs additional debts when applying for bankruptcy or going through the process.

You might be able to find them on the insolvency registers & be able to contact the OR, here:

Unless he's found a way around that? ie say the business is running at a loss or breaking even. My ex-employer used to break even on purpose. Although they're not a limited company but a society/association.

Might be worthwhile checking what it says on companies house about his company. As i've found out in the past week, companies do use Ltd after their name even if they're not a limited company.

when hes declared backrupt he cant continue this business. so if he gets a paid job ( employed) or signs on JSA this must be declared, it is an offence if it is not.

but most scammers do not go the bankrupt route, all they do is registered a Ltd company (can be done from £15), when they have fleeced enough people they apply to companies house to wind the ltd company up, pay the £10 fee to dissolve the company and then just start the process all over again under a different name
