community care grant question.

Hi guys, got a quick question on behalf of a friend of mine. They recently applied for a community care grant for a few things they needed ( they have applied before and been successful) but this time a person from the DWP turned up randomly at their house to check that what they said they needed and if their claim was genuine etc, my friend was really taken aback as never had this done before, was just wondering if this is something new they have started doing or have they been doing this for a while?

Thanks in advance.
Raven. :grinheart:grinheart:grinheart

As he has made previous applications this would prompt either a home visit or an appt to gather more information.

In an ideal world they would make a spot call to check on the first application.

  • i thought it had changed that you can only get one if there is a 'disaster' - have they had one? (e.g fire, flood)
  • They introduced home visits earlier this year following pilots which discovered that a large amount of customers were overstating their needs. There can be a visit on the first application or on any subsequent application. Some claims will attract a home visit, others won't.
