Voluntary severance questions

Voluntary severance is part of the civil service compensation scheme. Basically, if you volunteer and are accepted, the civil service will give you a months gross salary for every year you have worked for them (up to a max of 2 years) to leave the service. They call it severance, not redundancy. The first £30,000 is not taxable.
Basically, if there is anything I need to do or say to make my claim successful, then I would be grateful for any advice.
I really don't want to make a claim, just to be rejected, then find out that a former colleague who also took the severance said something different to another advisor and was successful.

Hi
I take it your a civil servant ? I'm in exactly the same boat so would be interested too. Going in March, don't plan to be sitting on my backside for too long but need to know what I'm entitled to, JSA ?
Guessing it depends on the wording on your retirement letter.
I've asked our redundancy people for some written explanations so if I get anything I'll post on here.
Good luck !!0 -
I was in the same position 2 years ago and received just that - but haven't the rules changed recently - Limiting you to a relatively meagre amount ?
ps I also received 6 months PILON - and managed to sign on during that 6 months (before anyone asks - I was told to by JCP)0 -
the main changes have been to have a max of 21 years payout so a lot of people here have lost a lot of money. Luckily i'm at 21 years so make no odds to me and will get 21 months salary.0

I understand that there is also a maximum yearly rate too now
ps) I had 30 years under my belt and received over 7 x gross (annual) salary
I couldn't refuse that !!
I was given "reserved rights" - since I was still in the same grade as I was in 1987 !!0 -
You'd be entitled to claim 6 months JSA contributory depending on your NI contributions in the relevant tax years. After that it would depend on your partners income, savings etc.
You can claim as soon as you leave, I understand they've changed the rules os that all notice will be worked so there will be no PILON to consider."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0
