Asda took twice from my debit card

I have just returned from a nightmare shop at Asda (smallheath Birmingham). As well as them having no carrier bags and a rude supervisor, they mucked up payment from my card and have taken the payment twice. This is because the first authorisation failed and i had to enter my details again.I was assured the first transaction was cancelled.I did ask for a cancellation receipt but there wasnt one and i was told it hadnt gone through.I believed it and now got home to see on my online banking that two payments have gone through. The shop cant help until tomorrow.I did ring but a bakery manager answered and said sorry, can you come in tomorrow,he cant deal with it etc.Has anyone else had this happen at any shop?

if the first payment was cancelled, it should just be reversed back into your bank account in 3-5 dayshelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -

Thats what i am hoping, but my available balance (which was checked before i went shopping) is exactly minus twice the amount my shopping bill was.
It will be, its called an authorisation hold (good description on wikipedia). Asda haven't taken the money twice, your bank have reserved temporarily the money. Your balance will go back up in a few days and only one transaction will show on your banking / statement.
Its more of a quirk in the way banks authorise cards than a mistake by Asda or the bank.0 -
Have you called your bank (if they are open)?
About 15 years ago when I was working at Tesco I filled up and paid at the pump.
I popped in to say hello to colleagues and whilst chatting, we spotted an error on the screen that said my payment had not gone through. As I worked there, we noted it down and agreed to check later.
Good job I didn't pay again, payment went through, and the bank confirmed it would when I called them.
I'm sure it will be resolved quickly enough if you have paid twice, you can get a mini statement to prove it if need be?Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
