10 year international license, 1 year old EU license...sky-high quotes

Hello everyone
My husband and I moved to the UK a year ago from Italy. We are both 34 years old. We just bought a 2003 Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 worth roughly 2.5k. My husband has held an EU driver's license since 1998 and had no claims in his home country in the last 8 years. I was issued an EU license in October 2010 and have had no claims either. Before this I held a claim-free United Arab Emirates license issued in 1999 that expired in 2009. The lowest quote we've received, with only my husband as the driver, is from Tesco insurance for around 560. We both would like to be insured drivers for this car but adding me to the list of insured drivers shoots the quotes we receive to anywhere between 2,500 to 4,000. Is there any way we could keep these premiums low? Any advice would be appreciated.
