Household water filter?

Is there such a thing? If poss, we want to fit something into/onto the water pipe under the floorboards by the front door, so that all the household water gets filtered and limescale doesn't build up, affecting the shower and washing-machine etc. Anyone know?

There are such things, they look like a little box and have a cable that has to be wrapped around the cold/hot water pipes. The unit is plugged into a socket and apparently they reduce limescale build up. My advice is to ask a plumber which one to buy.

In my opinion those electrical or magnetic devices are a complete waste of money and do not work. How do you “magnetise” non ferrous and non magnetic H2O, calcium and magnesium ions? (This is my opinion, other may disagree:D )

We have a water softener that softens all the incoming water except for a drinking water tap which has an in line filter to remove chlorine and other contaminants.

A water softener is quite expensive but well worth it. You will be looking at up to £1,000 for a decent model. I recommend Kinetico non electric twin cylinder models though there are cheaper available.

An in line filter is relatively inexpensive (under £100) and again a good investment.
