Then they must have made it back in the interim. Honestly I searched everywhere for my now 8yo. There's even a thread on mse somewhere asking about them.Eh? I have 2 teething rings for my son. Soft plastic water-filled rings that live in the fridge. Same thing I had when I was teething 21 years ago, and they were only £1 each. Bought one as recent as 6 months ago, and the shops still stock them as I nearly bought another one last week.
Not a fan of a lot of teething toys as I find some can be a bit inflexible.
If the teething rings aren't working, I usually give DS a hard biscuit to gnaw on or a tip-top or ice cube.0 -

Yes, I seem to remember when my now 10yo was teething there was some scaremongering about them, (babies 'might' have bitten through the plastic and swallowed the liquid IIRC) and they were being phased out, I remember having trouble finding one after using them 6 years perviously, by the time your DD was born they must have gone completely.
Maybe they make them with bite proof plastic now

teething rings still exist but are now mostly gel filled to prevent babies swallowing liquid. my 2 have insanely sharp teeth and bite everything (still do now at 5 and 2!! contantly telling them to stop biting stuff. its just habit for them now i think) and never once got close to biting through the rings. i had about 3 at a time lol. one for them to chew on, one sterilising and one in the fridge for when the 1st one got to warm.
i dont like the look for the giraffe though. looks like a baby could bite chunks off it and be more dangerous than they thought teething rings were!0 -

Weird!
I bought one from Asda and one from Home Bargains. Both are fairly thick plastic, not sure whether they'd be stronger than older ones.
I believe they're filled with sterilised water, so if a baby bites through, there's nothing harmful. Not a clue what they were filled with years ago.
Glad they're about though, they're a godsend!

My baby just drops the teething rings I bought, whereas she has been absorbed by Sophie almost from day one. It's easy for even young babies to hold and they seem to graduate from chewing the smaller bits, ears then snout and working up to legs. Its a teether but also a toy - she loves turning it over, examining the pattern etc.
I know they seem expensive, but they are a quality well made product. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
The water-filed ones were stopped for a while as the water was found to contain all sort of bacteria but they now use sterile water supposedly.
Our Sophie as been through the dishwasher and the washing machine an been chewed and bitten and sucked and hasnt lost any bit.. if a chid has choked on it then I would be blaming the parents for not discarding a worn toy!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
My baby has a Sophie (from Mothercare, was about a tenner, they price matched it) and he loves her. As soon as I showed it to him and squeaked it, he smiled. He loves chewing on her.
I'd definitely recommend them.0
