SW Trains season ticket scam

I've been traveling to work in London with monthly season tickets to Waterloo and using the Oyster card on the tube if I needed it.
I'va always asked for a monthly season to waterloo. I now look at the prices and find I've been charged for a ticket to London plus the tube - about £100 more.
This time I again asked for a season ticket to waterloo and then queried the price - the man in the ticket office appologised and agreed he was wrong and gave me the cheaper ticket.

I'm sure my previous tickets just said london terminals rather than zone 1-6 so I wasn't even getting what I paid for. Not sure how the ticket machine could do that.

Have to see if I can find any of the tickets but I have a suspicion this was deliberate and a complaint won't be upheld.

If it was just once I would agree but it was 5 in a row and the man in the ticket office didn't seem very surprised when I questioned it.

"scam" - "deliberate" - "complaint won't be upheld".............

Lot of proof you have there, to back that up; suggest you get the bus in future !

    ???
Not sure of your point but thanks for trying to help.
Bus would take several hours I think if it's possible, as opposed to half an hour on the train so not really viable.

Interestingly although not really relevant to the op. if you get a train to Manchester but just specify Manchester you will get fined if you get a tram across the city. However if when you request your ticket you say Manchester central zone. You get the tram for free and it's the same price. All transport has stupid rules, it should be more user friendly

Terminology can make things very confusing.

If I asked for a 'monthly travelcard' to London, I'd expect to get the tube, a 'monthly return to London Kings Cross' should only get me to that station.

Some people that sell tickets may be inclined to just assume you know what you are asking for and give you that.

Also should give you what you ask for. London I would say could include the zones but not Waterloo. Ok I didn't say Waterloo mainline station - might have thought I wanted the bus too but it's a very expensive way of getting a bus. Not sure I got what I paid for anyway - would have had the zones on it rather than London terminals.

One of the ticket staff at the station I used to commute from could be very abrupt, rude even, but would always give you the cheapest ticket that would get you to the place you wanted at the right time, not the ticket you had asked for. eg if you asked for a return to X but a travelcard was cheaper, you'd end up with a travelcard, if you asked for a return to X but a return to London Terminals was cheaper or the same price you'd get a return to London Terminals. He was also very quick and efficient. I wish all ticket staff were like him, tbh.

OP I don't think they get commission (but I could be wrong), so I don't see what benefit there would be for overcharging you.
If you can't find the old tickets, your bank/card statements should be proof of what you paid.
