hi
just a quickie
i would like to know if it does any damage or affects the heating system if say for example i turn a radiator down to zero(for the ones i have with a thermostat) or turn the dial down clockwise to turn it off on the other ones.
the reason i ask is someone told me it is not good for the system and there is one room that is rarely used at the moment downstairs and the converted loft upstairs which is not in use either.
the last two years i have turned these off and thought it was safe to do this.
And when i use the room downstairs i just turn the radiaotor on when i use the room.
thanks for reading this

If there is one radiator in your house that has no thermostat valve of wheel valve on then that is the one that never gets turned off.
The others you can do what you want with although having no heat in areas in extremely cold weather is a very bad idea for different reasons. Not Again0 -
A plumber told me it wasn't a great idea to leave a rad turned off for a long time because it was more prone to 'sticking'. I had to have a thermostatic head replaced because of this.Herman - MP for all!0

It is good practice to adjust all your radiator valves from time to time. This prevents them sticking. It doesn't matter if they are open, closed, or in the middle. just give them a turn (towards closed if they are not fully closed), then set them back again.
Provided your central heating is properly installed, there will be one radiator you can't turn off because it doesn't have a valve. In this case it is okay to turn off all the others.0
