Dentist - I'm terrified!!!

OK I've made an appointment with a dentist for 2pm today. I don't know what I'm more scared about the fear of pain (I've got a high threashold having had two kids without any pain relief or the fear of them confirming just how bad my oral hygiene really is and saying that every tooth has to come out!!!
Tried a few private surgerys but none could see me today so am going to the practice I used last time in an emergency but am seeing a different dentist.
Feeling so sick now and crying my heart out at the thought of it.
I wish I could just get it out of the way now!!!Mortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -

Mechanic - when I said nearly everyone has a dental phobia I meant on the dedicated dental website which I'd put a link up to. I didn't mean in life!
However, I will edit my post to make it clearer.0 -

Well done craftingmad :T I know your scared but you've made the first step and thats just great!! Any chance you could speak to your doctor? Maybe he can offer you something to calm your nerves?
Last time I went (filling) I took my phone with me and listened to music through my head phones. It helped a bit tbh.
dogcat, I know what you mean about not being able to even type the word out lol. The dentist threads are usually in the health/beauty forum and if I see the word in the title of a thread I won't even look through that forumEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -

Your saying this like I've never heard of sensodyne?
If you've ever used eucryl you will know you only need to use it once a month, its not a replacement for regular toothpaste and its not as harsh as getting the dentist to do a scrape and polish.
I am happy with my regime, my teeth have improved 10 fold and no longer look like a hillbilly when I smile.
As for your claims that oraldine do nothing, im wondering if you have ever used that too? :rotfl:
jeeze, you answer a question with what helped you to overcome the dentist and improve your teeth and you get everyones expert opinions, the OP can choose not to read it and I certainly wont stop because a total stranger who appears to be an expert in my oral health tells me to.Little Person Number 4 Due March 2012

Do you know, for years I did not realise you were not supposed to rinse after brushing! It wasn't until a few months ago that I read an article about taking care of your teeth that I saw the advise to spit, not rinse!
I wonder if that is where I have been going wrong all these years. Anyway, habit changes nowFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0 -
