moving on - am I entitled to anything?

I have been at my current job, working for a small company with two employees, for 8 years. For the last couple of years I've been sticking around when I probably should have been moving on as the company is winding down and redundancy seemed imminent. Two months ago I asked my employer where I stood and whether there was a chance of redundancy and he said he would come back to me at the end of October. He quoted me a figure in the event of redundancy (statutory) but it wasn't anything official and he wasn't saying that would definitely be the case. Last week I went for an interview and was successful - I found out on Friday that I got the job which is excellent news but I would like to know if I am entitled to anything from my current employer? I don't want to be greedy but it would be very annoying to find out in a months time that the company is closing and my colleague is getting a fat payoff. It has been suggested by friends that I should have a talk with my boss this week to find out his intentions before handing in my notice. Not sure I have it in me not to tell him straight away but don't want to miss out. Any advice greatly appreciated!

If you resign you get nothing.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

You already have a job offer. Therefore you are not entitled to redundancy anyway, in law. You have not been put at risk and you have not been made redundant. Even if the employer was to give you notice next week, it would be fraud on your part to take redundancy payments when you have been offered other employment prior to this. Just count yourself lucky that you have a job and don't take risks with it.0

Cool, that's what I thought but didn't want to miss out on anything! Thanks for your responses.0
