euro car park sign-clamping

just an enquiry rather than an actual incident

i thought private clamping wasillegal now yet on a euro car park outside my local clinic-which is free it says only permit holders can park or be wheel clamped

is that legal still?

ive parked there many times as have others and never seen anyone being clamped but i was just wondering if they can still

Yes it's still legal. The bill to outlaw it is still progressing through Parliament.

Personally I would never park where there's a clamping sign because they are all scammers - 'fair' is not a word they understand at all.

But the strange thing is that AFAIK Euro do not clamp cars. I have never, ever seen a post on here or on pepipoo forums where there has been a ECP clamping case. I don't think they have operatives with an SIA licence to do so. ECP signs normally only drone on about 'parking charge notices'.

Is the clamping sign headed up with ECP logo and does it list the cost of 'clamp removal' etc? Or is it just an individual sign, separate from the ECP usual yellow & blue signs, saying 'wheel clamping in operation' but NO clamp release fees stated?

If it's the latter then it's a bluff - possibly an old sign - because they would not be legally allowed to charge anything at all for clamp removal. There's a regular poster over on pepipoo who has been clamped 3 times at least recently in a spot where the 'clamping signs' do not state the cost of removal - and he is now on first-name terms with the clamping office staff who are forced to tell their operatives to remove the clamp for free every time!

Yep, almost certainly an old sign - nothing to do with ECP and just an empty threat seeing as there is no release fee stated! If you did get clamped you could just ask them to remove it for free as there's no contract to pay for removal.

But with an old sign, and with 'only' toothless ECP on site who only issue fake PCNs and never go to Court or anything, you are safe IMHO. ECP's signage is usually blue and yellow, easy to spot - but I bet the old sign is nothing to do with them. They or the landowner/occupier have, no doubt, left it up there on purpose though.
