Changing to PAYG electric supply?
My mother is due to change her accommodation, her current flat is the standard pay quarterly electric tariff (EDF Supplier). The new accommodation is a pay as you go with a key for topping up. Is this an expensive form of electric supply? The new landlord is stating that the unit cost is the same. Also is there usually a standard charge for the payg plan?

Depends on the tariff and Energy provider. I pay around 19p/KWH with Npower, compared to around 14 - 15p KWH if I was on an E7 tariff on a credit meter, so yes with some providers there is quite a bit of difference. In addition to the difference in actual KW/H rates. I also pay a standing charge of about £56.00 a year
If she goes with EDF in the new place, it does look like EDF pay fair with their pre-pay customers, and offer them the same KW/H rates as those on credit meters.
The tariff's can be found here:-

However, she wont be able to take advantage of any Direct Debit discounts, which I think is around 6%."Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0
